For Art Basel 26, Rene Schmitt is presenting works by A.R. Penck, John Armleder, Vito Acconci, Art & Language, Luis Camnitzer, Via Lewandowsky, Tal R, Karin Sander, and Nasan Tur. The selection brings together artists from different generations whose work addresses central questions regarding the conditions of perception, communication, and authorship.

From the language-critical strategies of Art & Language and Luis Camnitzer, through the performative and site-specific explorations of Vito Acconci, to the pictorial systems of signs developed by A.R. Penck and the blurring of boundaries between concept, object, and painting in John Armleder’s work, the artists are united by an interest in the structures that generate meaning and shape social reality. In the works of Via Lewandowsky, Karin Sander, Tal R, and Nasan Tur, this exploration continues in various forms—ranging from institutional reflection and everyday observation to political intervention and the re-examination of visual conventions.

The presentation reveals how conceptual, political, and formal questions have influenced one another over several decades and continue to shape our understanding of contemporary art to this day.

René Schmitt presents Nasan Tur at Art Basel Parcours with the solo project “Shades of Mardin” at the Antoniter Cellar in Basel.
